Giovanni Falascone is an Italian composer, pianist and improviser. Instrumental gesture stands at the centre of his research as a driver of sound production, a generator of form, and a physical presence that shapes both the listening and the creative experience. His work often involves electroacoustic augmentation of acoustic instruments through self-made devices and amplifications, aimed at expanding the expressive and timbral possibilities of traditional instruments. Revolving around the interaction between composition, performance and improvisation, he collaborates regularly with dancers and visual artists in the realisation of multimedia performances.
His works are published by SZ Sugar – Sugarmusic Spa, Milan.
He studied composition at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan under the guidance of Giovanni Verrando and Pasquale Corrado, and classical piano with Barbara Tripodi. He then continued his composition studies at the Conservatory of Mantua in the class of Maurizio Azzan, while also attending masterclasses with Clara Iannotta, Simon Steen-Andersen, Eva Reiter, Daniela Terranova, Daniele Ghisi, Stefano Gervasoni, Alessandro Solbiati, Dmitri Kourliandsky, Jean-Luc Hervé, Alexander Schubert, Ivan Fedele, and others. He is currently the composition assistant to Giovanni Verrando.
His works have been performed by ensembles and musicians such as NAMES, Divertimento Ensemble, Suono Giallo, Endkadenz Ensemble, Elio Marchesini, Alberto Anhaus, Elide Sulsenti, Filippo Fattorini, Anna Armatys, Sara Dominici and by Falascone himself, in festivals and events including: Limina Festival (Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, AT), Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Ars Electronica (Linz, AT), Rondò – Concert Season of the Divertimento Ensemble (IT), FOG Triennale MIlano (IT), PianoCity Milano (annually since 2019, IT), Ramificazioni (Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, Lugano, CH) TAOI (Hamburg, DE), Italian Cultural Institute in Paris (FR), Spazio Elle (Locarno, CH), Basement (Copenhagen, DK), Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano, OPOS (Milan, IT).
